Poland’s Milk Bar’s Over the Years

Visual Support for Citizen Science Research Presentation | Nourish Scotland & UCL Institute for Global Prosperity

Jagoda was selected and trained as a citizen scientist as part of a collaborative research project between Nourish Scotland and the UCL Institute for Global Prosperity, focused on the future of communal food provision and public diners.

Jagoda’s final research outcome explored how the perception of Bar Mleczny (traditional Polish milk bars) has changed over the years, what has evolved, what has stayed the same, and what role these institutions continue to play in Polish cultural identity. Jagoda also examined shifts in public sentiment toward milk bars and changes in who uses them today compared to the past.

This infographic was created to support the final presentation of her research. It visualises key insights and historical shifts in Bar Mleczny, serving as an accessible storytelling tool during a public presentation and event held at the Civic House in Glasgow. The research uses the Bar Mleczny model to explore how government-subsidised, community-based dining could inform the development of inclusive public diners in Scotland.
